A short top-down puzzle game where you save people from spreading fires through specially coloured foam.

This game was made over a weekend for the Mini Game Jam 218: Fire.

The game has Arrow Keys and WASD controls, where everything except pausing and continuing levels (done by Escape and Space, respectively) is done through these arrow keys.

You play as a rookie firefighter where, straight out of training, a group of arsonists begins setting fire to the whole city! Your job is to enter the burning buildings and save as many people as you can.

With graphics and sound design inspired by the 8-bit era, Fire Escape is a short puzzle game about precise grid navigation and colour-based problems.

All the mechanics should be covered in the tutorial levels or should be found through experimenting, but just in case it's still confusing:

The game more or less uses a Rock Paper Scissors-like dynamic for the three colours of Fire and Foam, with Red beating Green and losing to Blue, Blue beating Red and losing to Green, and Green beating Blue but losing to Red.

By running into and picking up the differently coloured foams in the level, you get some Foam armour that allows you to extinguish fires the foam's colour beats, and walk through without taking damage for fires the same colour as the foam. However, the Foam armour will do nothing against fires that beat the foam's colour.

The Foam armour also has durability that will break down by extinguishing fire and standing in fire too long.

Your goal is simply to rescue the civilians trapped inside the levels by leading them safely to the exit, or waiting for rescue to arrive. Unlike you, these civilians will die when touching fire, unless you have foam, which spreads your immunity to them.
